Why is a different name displaying as my caller ID when I make calls through the Ruby app?

May 1st, 2023

A caller ID name can either be provided by the phone making the call or by the phone answering the call. Ruby's phone carrier does not provide caller ID name, which means when you place a call from the app, the phone answering the call is responsible for providing the caller ID name instead.

To do this, the phone answering the call pulls information from its own carrier's caller ID name database. There are multiple databases, and they are each responsible for pulling updates from a central database. This means some databases will have current caller ID information for a phone number, while others can have outdated information. You can find more information about how caller ID name works on the List Yourself! website here.

How do I make the correct caller ID information show up?
If your caller ID information is not showing up correctly when you dial out via Ruby's app, the caller database for the phone provider of the number you are dialing is likely out-of-date. We have had previous success using listyourself.net, a free service that passes along your updated information to the central database, so we'd recommend checking out what options they have.
